Transit Bipartition

What is Transit Bipartition (Diabetes Surgery)?

Transit Bipartition, also known as sugar surgery, is one of the most effective applications in the surgical treatment of type 2 Diabetes and Obesity.

It is the process of relocating the region at the end of the small intestine using the Laparoscopy (closed surgery) technique aimed with Transit Bipartition. With this method, there is no change in the size of the intestines. It is carried to the exit of the stomach from the last part of the small intestine (ileum) in order to increase the passage of undigested food. The aim of metabolic surgery is hormonal changes and the advantages of these changes.

Two-thirds of the food taken passes through the new path created by Transit Bipartition. The stomach, which shrinks and accelerates with Tube Stomach surgery, delivers the undigested food to the small intestine in a new way opened with sugar surgery. In this way, the release of the GLP-1 hormone is provided. GLP-1 hormone increases insulin secretion and effectiveness. Type 2 Diabetes provides 90-95% improvement. With the shrinking of the stomach, calorie intake is limited and a feeling of satiety occurs. As a result, almost all patients lose up to 80% of their excess weight in the first year. Insulin, whose release and effect increases with diabetes surgery, breaks insulin resistance, which is one of the main causes of obesity and diabetes.

Complete cessation or reduction of sugar pills and insulin injections with Transit Bipartition. Prevention of eye, kidney, neurological problems, cardiovascular problems that you may encounter due to high blood sugar, and elimination of additional diseases such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, coronary artery disease and polycystic ovary syndrome, if any.

How is it done? Will I have pain?

This surgery can be performed as laparoscopic, that is, closed surgery, just like obesity surgeries. It is performed under general anesthesia, it is a procedure that takes about 3-5 hours. It can be done with tools inserted through the holes drilled in the abdomen. If everything goes well, water can be consumed on the first day. On the 2nd and 3rd days, liquid foods are started. If it is not met with a possible situation, it is discharged between 3-5 days. After resting at home for 0 days, they can return to work life. The surgical procedure is a miraculous event for diabetics. With this surgery, diabetics can most likely get rid of diabetes, their excess weight, if any, and other diseases caused by diabetes.

Does the disease recur?

If the pancreatic reserve is not depleted (we can understand this with preoperative examinations), over 90% of diabetes can be cured. As a result of the 5-year follow-up of the patients who underwent this surgery, it was shown that diabetes did not recur.
